KNUDSEN KILEN A/S
Knudsen Kilen’s history began more than 50 years ago, when the world’s first plastic wedge – the yellow wedge – saw the light of day. It was foreman Johannes Knudsen who, in the late 1960s, invented the now-famous Knudsen Wedge as a replacement for more traditional shimming methods using wood, bricks and similar materials.
It is probably still our best-known product and, with its many functions, remains at the forefront of the field after 50 years.
Since then, the product range has expanded significantly, and today the company is a leading manufacturer of wedges, spacers and other moulded plastic components used for a wide variety of tasks in the construction industry.
With a modern approach and deep insight into the building industry, we are dedicated to always staying ahead of market developments, delivering high-quality products, being a reliable supplier and, not least, ensuring great customer satisfaction with attentive, accessible and impeccable service. These are the core values that drive us forward.
As a manufacturing company, we carry a special responsibility to protect the environment. We are constantly working to optimise and make production more energy efficient, as well as to use as much recycled material as possible. Currently, 80% of our product range is made from recycled raw material sourced from the food industry, and Knudsen Kilen can still document the same excellent properties and a long lifetime of at least 75 years for all products.
To further contribute to sustainable construction, we have now prepared EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for most of our products. These play a crucial role in life cycle assessments of construction projects.
EPDs provide comprehensive information about the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle, from raw material extraction to production, use phase and disposal. This data is essential for achieving sustainability certification for a construction project.
By offering EPDs for our products, we aim to make sustainable construction easier and more accessible.
Knudsen Kilen’s expertise is not limited to producing practical plastic components for professionals. Our extensive experience also means we are available to our customers with the following services:
Acting as contact persons for architects and contractors and providing relevant product information when specified in construction projects
Assisting with information on impact sound insulation and load-bearing capacity, assessing needs and advising on the most suitable solutions
Offering training for carpenter apprentices at technical schools
Offering free courses at distributors to equip them to better advise their customers
Visiting construction sites at project start-up to review the many new, stricter requirements regarding, for example, impact sound insulation
We are proud of our history and will continue to deliver innovative and reliable plastic solutions to the construction industry – with the lowest possible environmental impact.
